┴ wolfenstein 本名謝仲其,長年自主聆聽與創作,剛從紐約 Revolutions per Minute: A Decade of Chinese Sound Art 演出回來,不輕易跨界演出的他,近年以「鬼唱詩班」的名義與詩詞朗誦互動,本場則是他首次與影像合作。VJ Ellen,人稱潘潘,影像專門科系畢業,長期與搖滾樂團、聲音藝術家和小劇場密切合作,影像以幾何圖形及靈活調變著稱,對「擴延電影」始終保持高度興 趣。兩人首次同台,令人拭目以待!



┬ Bob Ostertag 和 Pierre Hébert 的「現場電影」(Live Cinema),往往透過實物投影、現場手繪圖案、聲音取樣及調變,批判卻不失幽默地介入社會議題。Bob 在 1991 年出版的聲音作品 Sooner or Later 紀錄薩爾瓦多男孩為遭軍隊射殺的父親埋葬時的啼哭,驚駭四座。Pierre 是全職動畫家,影像以抽象主義著稱,直接於電影膠卷上刻畫線條,後期加入不少政治訴求。兩人在 2004 年共同出版現場演出紀錄 Between Science and Garbage,大獲好評。

┴ wolfenstein (Zhongqi Xie), after years of autonomous listening and creation, fresh back from touring at NY Revolutions per Minute: A Decade of Chinese Sound Art. Having limited interdisciplinary performance, Wolfenstein recently initiated “Ghost Choir” to interact with poetry and lyrics, this gig with VJ Ellen will be his first visual co-op. VJ Ellen a.k.a. Pan-Pan, graduated with a video diploma. She for a long time has been working with rock bands, sound artists and avant-garde theaters closely. Well known for geometric shapes and swift modifying of her image, while holding high interest in “expanded movie”. This collaboration is vastly anticipated.

Revolutions Per Minute will feature new and existing works by 30 Chinese sound artists, including Wang Changcun, Xu Cheng (a member of the renowned Shanghai noise group Torturing Nurse), Yan Jun, and Samson Young. Wang Changcun, Xu Cheng, Samson Young, Qu Qianwen, and Xie Zhongqi will be in residence at Colgate throughout the duration of the exhibition. Along with the exhibition’s curators Wenhua Shi and Dajuin Yao, these artists-in-residence will present live sound art performances during the opening week of the exhibition, including improvisations, inter-media performances, and circuit bending. They will also conduct demonstrations on sound art workshops throughout the course of the exhibition.


Sound artists use noise, live performances by musicians, recorded ambient sounds, spoken words, audio-visual tapes and other aural elements to create art installations that either have no visual elements or forge a connection between images and sounds. It has become a popular genre in China in recent years, where a new generation of avant-garde artists are pushing its boundaries. -James C. Mckinley Jr. New York Times

“これが1910年にフランス人技師Leon Gaumontによって公開された「THE GAUMONT CHRONOPHONE SYSTEM」。2台のターンテーブルが蓄音機に接続されています。
しかもこれにはDJミキサーのクロスフェーダーに当たる装置が付いており、2枚のレコードから出る音楽をミックスすることが可能となっています。
なぜそんなものがこの時代にあるのでしょうか?理由は映画です。この時代はサイレント映画と呼ばれる無声映画からトーキーと呼ばれる発声映画への移行期に当たります。サウンドカメラと呼ばれる映像と音声を一つのフィルムに記録する技術ができる前は映像と音声は別々に再生されていました。
そのため映像と音声の同期が難しく、トーキーはまだ実験的な段階にありました。特に、当時音声はアナログレコードを用いて再生されていたため、レコードの再生時間に音声が制限されていました。その制限を取り払い、よりスムーズに映画の音声を映像に合わせてミックスするために用いられたアイディアのひとつがこの「THE GAUMONT CHRONOPHONE SYSTEM」となります。
なお、エアコンプレッサーを使ったアンプを内蔵しており、4000人クラスのホールで使用できるほどの音量を誇ったとのこと。”

The man born Peter Kuhlmann (“Namlook” is his name pronounced backwards) was an incredibly prolific artist from the ’90s on, releasing some 130 albums over the course of his career. These included numerous collaborations with artists like Richie Hawtin, Uwe Schmidt (as Atom Hart), Biosphere and Move D among many others. He also ran his own label, FAX +49-69/450464 (often known simply as Fax), which released more than 100 CDs and records in its first year of operation. Working on his own, Kuhlmann’s style was heavily influenced by Germany’s kosmische tradition and artists like Brian Eno, as well as classical and Eastern music - Resident Advisor
